aggregation
a clumping or clustering of individuals of a population in a non-random distribution. Such clumping can occur- as a response to local habitat differences, e.g. some organisms preferring, say, damp to dry areas;
- as a response to daily or seasonal weather changes;
- by reproductive processes, e.g. individuals hatching from the same egg batch in some animals, or poor seed dispersal in plants;
- as a result of social attraction, e.g. colonial nesting in birds.
