46th DCW Conversation Hour
The 46th DCW Conversation Hour features Florence Devouard and focuses on exploring Gender Equity in the Wikimedia Ecosystem. This conversation examines the systemic challenges, community strategies, and governance models involved in bridging gender and regional content gaps across free knowledge platforms. Drawing from hands-on movement initiatives, the discussion will highlight structural approaches to improving female representation, empowering women leaders, and fostering equitable and inclusive volunteer networks.
Our guest speaker is a pioneering figure in the global open knowledge movement, former Chair of the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees (2006–2008), and a Knight in the French National Order of Merit, who has been active in the movement since 2002. She has spearheaded key gender-equity initiatives, including co-founding Wiki Loves Women through Wiki in Africa and actively supporting projects like Les sans pagEs. An agricultural engineer by background, she brings over two decades of leadership in open-source governance, digital commons advocacy, and community building, and has also co-founded Wikimedia France and served as a Wikimedian-in-Residence for institutions such as WIPO.
