About Me
Introduction
My name is Giannis Kepas and I am a DevOps & Site Reliability Engineer with 2+ years of professional experience building and maintaining cloud infrastructure and backend systems.
I work primarily with Go and Python, and my day-to-day involves containerised workloads on Docker and Kubernetes, cloud deployments on AWS, infrastructure automation with Ansible, and observability through Prometheus.
My engineering philosophy is simple: If you have to do it twice, automate it.
I value clean, maintainable systems over clever ones, the kind of infrastructure that a future teammate can understand, extend, and trust at 2 in the morning.

Work Experience
DevOps & Site Reliability Engineer
University of Western Macedonia
- Ran the day-to-day infrastructure engineering for the Telecommunications, Networks, and Distributed Systems Laboratory, from provisioning through incident response, working alongside the laboratory director.
- Built and operated a self-managed, bare-metal Kubernetes cluster hosting the department's teaching and research workloads.
- Administered the libvirt/KVM layer backing the laboratory's virtual machines and codified host provisioning, configuration, and patching in Ansible, replacing manual per-machine setup across the estate.
- Administered the laboratory's self-managed GitLab instance, hosting the repositories and CI/CD pipelines of research projects and undergraduate classes alike.
- Instrumented the estate with Prometheus and Grafana to surface failures before they reached students and staff, then diagnosed and resolved those incidents across the Kubernetes, virtualization, and networking layers.

- Architected, monitored, and maintained scalable and highly available cloud environments on AWS, managing VPC and subnet networking and enforcing security best practices (IAM roles, Security Groups).
- Designed and deployed robust, containerized applications utilizing Docker.
- Built and maintained CI/CD pipelines automating test, container image builds, and deployments to Kubernetes.
- Provisioned, configured, and administered Kubernetes clusters to ensure seamless application scaling and reliability.
- Implemented comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions using Prometheus, Grafana and Alertmanager to ensure system health.
