Theme: Reimagining the Knowledge Commons
[edit]Sub-theme: Community Leadership in an Evolving Wikimedia Ecosystem
[edit]The digital landscape is shifting rapidly- from the rise of new AI technologies to changing patterns in how people seek and trust information. The knowledge commons we have built over the last two decades now exists within a more complex and evolving ecosystem.
A "knowledge commons" refers to a shared resource of information and data that is collectively managed and used by a community. It functions as an open intellectual space where the value lies not in ownership, but in the collaborative stewardship and equitable distribution of human knowledge.
To ensure that knowledge remains open, inclusive, safe, and accessible, we cannot simply maintain what exists: we must actively shape ourselves to tackle what comes next. This theme aligns closely with broader Wikimedia movement priorities, as highlighted in the Wikimedia Foundation’s global trends. In a time of declining trust in online information and the rapid rise of AI-generated content, strengthening community-led, human-created knowledge becomes more critical than ever. (Read More...)

Proposal Formats
[edit]- Lightning Talk: Short presentation sharing a project, idea, lesson learned, or innovation. (5 minutes)
- Demonstration: Demonstration of a tool, workflow, or technical solution. (15 - 20 minutes)
- Facilitated Discussion / Round Table: Collaborative discussion on a theme, challenge or opportunity. (45 - 60 minutes)
- Interactive Activity: Audience-driven activity, exercise or collaborative session. (30 - 45 minutes)
- Workshop: Hands-on learning session with practical exercises. Devices such like laptop may or may not be needed. (60 - 90 minutes)
- Panel Discussion: Multiple speakers discussing a topic with audience engagement. (45 - 60 minutes)
- Poster Presentation: Posters presenting at the Conference Venue allowing one-on-one discussions with participants. For more details on poster submissions, please refer to this dedicated page
- Meetups: Community specific meetups.
