Advice Animals consist of a two-line joke over a single-panel reusable character template. There are many other meme subreddits which have less restrictive format rules where you can post non-AA memes.

Of particular note: Socially Awesome/Awkward Penguin is not "Good Thing/Bad Thing Penguin". Likewise for its inverted counterpart. Please make sure there's a social awkwardness element if you're using that template.

Bigotry is not welcome on this subreddit

We're here to have a laugh. Hate speech, bigotry, and personal attacks are not allowed.

Persistent or egregious violations will lead to a ban.

Don't tell people they should hurt or kill themselves, or that they should be dead

Death threats and telling others to kill themselves will result in a ban from the subreddit.

Only submit original content you created today

Mentioning your Cake Day in your meme or post title is not allowed. Please, just don't.

This includes roundabout ways of reminding people to upvote, such as references to "dying in new" or "getting to hot". We have seen every possible variation of this, and will remove your upvote-begging post no matter how clever and creative you think you're being.

Don't post Unpopular Opinion Puffins or Vertical memes

Don't post Unpopular Opinion Puffin memes, or other memes (like Confession Bear) with a Puffin-style message shoehorned in.

These are Verticals Two advice animals in a vertical is okay.

Don't post memes picturing someone you know in real life (including yourself)

Don't make memes with pics of people that you saw in real life. Ever.

Don't try to make yourself or someone you know into a meme.

Shortened links, Facebook, Tumblr, Blogspot, etc will be automatically removed.

Don't post COVID or anti-vax misinformation

Downplaying or outright denying the severity of COVID-19, or arguing that vaccinations are not a safe and effective way to protect people and populations against disease, will result in a ban.

Healthy skepticism and debate are allowed (and encouraged!), but anti-science nonsense has no place on this subreddit or anywhere else on this site. Denial of the plethora of evidence that vaccination is safe and effective is not a reasonable or rational position to take.
