Be Nice / No discrimination or harassment

No Spam or Sale or Trade Posts / Self-Promotion

No sales, trades, spam, or self-promotion. Do not use r/Caudex to sell or trade plants, seeds, merch, services, or to promote a shop, nursery, importer/exporter, Instagram, YouTube, website, marketplace, WhatsApp, seller profile, or similar channel. Commercial stock/showcase posts may be removed even without direct sales links.

No Politics/Religion/any inflammatory Posts

This isn't the place for any political heated discussion, or any non-plant post or comment that evokes controversy; comments/posts violating this rule will result in a warning, and possibly up to a ban.

Field Collected / Poached Plants

Please do not knowingly post photos of, or links to purchase, poached plants. Poaching is the illegal collecting from habitat of wildlife, including plants. Field collecting can be completely legal in the plant's home habitat. If you are unsure of whether your plant is poached or not, you may post it, but keep in mind that the post might get flagged or you might get some feedback.

Special Rule about Stephania/Thailand native species

Stephania species, Phyllanthus ones, including and especially Stephania erecta, are among the most commonly purchased caudiciform plants these days. They are also, generally speaking, taken from habitat. Even if the practice is legal in their home countries, we highly discourage posting about them, and HIGHLY discourage people from purchasing them. At the same time, if someone has one already and wants an ID or needs advice, they will be allowed to post, but will get a special cautionary flag.

Allowed Plants

There are competing ideas of what constitutes a caudiciform plant. We will not discriminate here if it's a tuberous (underground) caudex, or an above-ground caudex (that includes plants that store water in their branches). Succulent bulbs, such as Drimia, Ledebouria, and Boophane will also be considered caudiciforms here. However, plants that use their branches/trunk to both photosynthesize AND to store water, such as most cacti, are generally not considered caudiciforms.
