what's your worst local dating event horror story?

Recently, I went to a mahjong (MJ) dating event hosted by onetileaway.sg (throwaway because i'm embarrassed LOL). The event was pretty interesting: 3 rounds of MJ, you rotate tables, 2 girls, 2 guys per table. Every time you 'PONG', you answer a question from the provided list. You get to meet 6 new people of the opposite sex for the night.

In reality? Holy crap some of the guys were taking the game too seriously. They were so impatient when explaining/teaching MJ to me because i'm a newbie (played about 3 times). Like bro it's a dating event not a MJ competition??? Had one guy that was just so focused he eye contacted only once throughout the whole round (also seemed like he has anger management issues because he was so haphazard).

The whole point of the event was to get to know each other and socialise but people were acting like their lives were on the line. Honestly, it's crazy I feel they're like my relatives judging my MJ skills at CNY when i play with them...

So it made me wonder how are people's experiences like? (speed dating, blind dating or any local dating events)

Please feel free to share your experiences ~

I’m bored, so I’ll start first. I was on a date with this guy who was nice and sweet. It was going well until he said, “Hey, guess which secondary school I came from. Most people can guess because of my accent.”

Yes, he did have a strong angmoh accent.

I had attended a neighborhood school, so I wasn’t sure what he meant by guessing from his accent. I answered with the only school I could think of…. “Raffles?” Dude immediately stopped smiling, as though I had said something terribly wrong.

He replied coldly, “I was from ACS. You can’t tell???”

Then he asked me, “By any chance, are you from RGS? You speak English very fluently.”

At that point, I was really turned off by the discussion about secondary school. We had both been working for almost ten years, so why were we discussing about secondary school?

I told him it wasn’t important, but he kept probing and refused to accept no for an answer. Finally, I told him my very lame, unknown neighborhood school, and he was like, “Huh?” LOL.

I’m curious to know if anyone has had similar or even more siao experiences 🥹

Mother’s gambling addiction is ruining my family. I need help, what should I do?
Mother’s gambling addiction is ruining my family. I need help, what should I do?

I am 19 and my family(just me and my parents) is completely broke and losing our home because of my mother’s severe gambling addiction, pyramid scams, and loanshark debts. Over the past year, we had to sell our family home and got evicted from two rental places because she gambled away the rent money. This constant stress ruined my grades and forced me to pause my studies. Despite having no money, she still forced us to spend thousands on a holiday just weeks ago and expensive meals to pretend we are rich. Right now, our rent is completely higher than my father's take-home pay, so we are losing money every single month. My mother has drained all our cash, and I even had to borrow hundreds of dollars from my own friends just to help my father pay for his basic work travel, so now I am in debt too.

To make everything worse, my mother has refused to come home for more than a week. She is currently at the casino gambling right now, trying to win money to pay off the debts she owes her friends. She completely ignores my texts, but she keeps calling and messaging my father to demand hundreds of dollars at a time. To force him to send the cash, she explicitly threatens suicide to emotionally blackmail him. I have begged my father countless times to apply for a Family Exclusion Order to legally ban her from the casinos, but he completely refuses to budge. He is paralyzed by trauma and fear because he genuinely thinks that if he bans her or stops sending money, she will actually commit suicide. Because he is trapped in this fear loop, he keeps sending her cash, which just goes straight into the casino and drains our final survival funds.

I am completely exhausted and I need to step in before everything collapses. What can I realistically do right now to handle this situation? Are there legal ways I can protect my father and myself from her debts? How do I stop this cash drain when my father is too paralyzed to say no? Any local Singaporean resources, advice, or guidance would mean the world to me.
