Why are we all still using Facebook when it seems to get worse every year?

Why are we even using Facebook anymore?

I'm literally logged into my account, but I can't reset my password because the code isn't being sent to my email or the phone number that's on file. And if something goes wrong? Good luck trying to talk to an actual human. No live chat, no phone support just endless help pages that don't help.

My feed isn't even my friends anymore it's basically one giant ad break with the occasional random post thrown in.

Then there's moderation. heh You report an obvious fake page and somehow it stays up. Meanwhile, someone you actually know gets hit with a random ban for who knows what.

And don't even get me started on Live. Somehow bullying, harassment, and all kinds of awful behavior can stay up for everyone to watch.

At this point, I'm genuinely wondering. whyTy are we all still using Facebook? I’m Chri curious why you’re still on it?

The page is currently nothing but "is Facebook down?" Since everyone is posting every second, we are locking the sub until it comes back up.

So, proof that I'm a mod? The below information was posted by Facebook in 2024

Some of you are going to find you are in no problems, some of you will find strange issues, and some of you will not be able to do shit. Apologies for the false hope... please accept this meme

Facebook is claiming "we are back". What this really means. A problem happened, they fixed it, but some of you are going to still have issues.

What to do now

You may need to clear the cache of the device you are using. CTRL-F5 on Desktop, or go to your app under storage and look for a cache.

Be patient

As I noted in one of my first edits, what happens when there is an accident on the road? Traffic backs up. Even after the crash is cleared up, there is a "wave" that happens where the traffic still is not smooth like it used to be. If it WAS working, and now it is not, you may have to give it time.

Touch grass

It's a great day today, mowing weather actually, maybe go enjoy it while you wait for things to get back to normal.

(this one is a joke, but you know, some of you might benefit from some vit D)

edit:

Yes, for some people it will be up. I will ELi5 as to what's most likely happening.

There are so many servers that accommodate the millions of people that log into Facebook. When everything is working normally, you get in no problem.

Just like when you drive in the city under normal driving conditions, you have no problem getting to your destination. But what happens when there is a crash, or it's "rush hour"? Your car either slows down or comes to a complete stop.

This is what you are experiencing, and the fact it's not jut Facebook means it is something even bigger.

As for locking down the sub (which requires admin approval now), a bunch of people constantly posting the same thing over and over again helps NO ONE. It makes it impossible for mods to stop scams, and in some cases, provides false information. Plenty of posts are noting "oh hey it is back up again", but the fact is, right now it is not.

edit2:

Yes, some of you are going to see you can get to the page, but your login is wrong. This is part of the outage.

edit2.5: Yes, we are removing posts, and will continue to do so. When the outage is declared done, there may people who legit cannot get logged in for reasons not related. This will help those people when the time comes.

Facebook's reporting procedure is an absolute joke with blatant hateful content deemed acceptable

I have reported many comments on Facebook that blatantly call for the deaths of Ukrainian civilians, celebrate violence in Ukraine, and glorify attacks on innocent people. Every single report has come back with exactly the same response: "We didn't remove the comment."

At this point, either Facebook supports violence against Ukraine and the murder of innocent civilians, or they are totally incompetent at reviewing reports and enforcing their own Community Standards. I honestly struggle to see what other conclusion can be drawn when comments openly celebrating or calling for violence are repeatedly deemed acceptable.

If Facebook is serious about tackling hate and violent content, it needs to explain why comments advocating or celebrating violence against civilians are so consistently left online. Right now, the reporting process feels completely pointless.
