Tonight I’m on the 505, woman gets on the streetcar at Yonge/Dundas and her phone is just blaring Zombie by The Cranberries. Okay, whatever, cool song. But there’s only so much Zombie one can take and she’s got a 45 second clip of the song on a loop full blast.
I have never done this before, but I actually said out loud “ Can you please turn that down?”
She does. And a split second later all these broccoli hair high school kids go “AYO. FUCK THAT SHIT. TURN IT UP, LADY. WHO THE FUCK SAID THAT? FUCK THAT KAREN.”
So she cranks it up again. The same 45 second loop of The Cranberries. Over and over again. The broccoli hair high school kids also join in, watching Tiktoks on their phones, Family Guy Tiktoks, volume also on full blast. A total cacophony on the streetcar, as The Cranberries provides the score music.
Why did I say anything? I should’ve just stayed quiet.
We have failed as humans. We need to start over again.
There was beautiful milkweed covered in monarch eggs just a few days ago in Marilyn Bell Park.
Everything was mowed when I went by this morning. I’m steaming.
