We did something similar- i slammed my shin on my bike pedal and have had a knot in the shin for a few weeks. Seems to be slowly getting better. The bruising for me was pretty bad but its getting better every day just going slow. Im just monitoring closely and making sure progress is going the right direction. This is the leg I've had my DVT in and it damaged some of the blood vessels so I get some swelling. When in doubt talk to your doctor. This is my first actual good smack since ive become an elquis lifer. Sure seems like any bruise is going to take considerably longer to heal.

What is a good amount of knowledge with linux and bash? You should be focused on networking and as suggested some ctfs. As someone who was very very poor when I was learning- open source software and virtual machines will be a great help. If you have a laptop or desktop that can host 2x2gb ram vms you have a tiny hacking lab. "Does anyone know how to learn the entirety of hacking for free?" I applaud your goal, I really do and ultimately hacking is a state of mind and often a character trait. It is a problem solving methodology. I would point you to picoctf or even something like hackthissite as well. If you really want to get stuck in those ctfs are a low barrier of entry. Vulnhub is another option with a slightly higher barrier of entry but the whole point is learning right.
That was my first thought. When I was a field tech and especially in education- I would just go stand in a classroom instead of doing a remote repair. Be kind to the teacher. We would reboot or more often things resolve themselves. As a Systems admin I do everything outside some walkins remotely but a large part of our presence is just having field techs visible and easily accessible. This seems like more of a soft skills issue. As my manager always said you have to feed your race horse but also take time to care for your donkey. Even if that is 10 minutes of local hand holding.
