[edit]Birthday presents
[edit]Here you can add a birthday present to the list or leave a birthday message. Presents can be anything celebrating Wikidata and the work of its editors -- especially something useful to the community: a script you wrote, improvements to a tool, a visual, a poem.... If you're looking for inspiration, check out presents from previous birthdays: 13th, 12th, 11th, 10th, 9th, 8th, 7th, 6th.
- Till the 14th birthday I will edit +/- all the metadata of virtual exhibitions like of museum-digital d:Q1360745 (https://nearby.hypotheses.org/5614) and Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek d:Q621630 (https://osl.hypotheses.org/21392) ... :) Jeb (talk)---
- Mergers & Acquisitions: I have created a new web app to help editors find duplicate Wikidata items and merge them :) I've found it very useful so far, hopefully others do too. Happy early 14th birthday Wikidata! Nicereddy (talk) 00:43, 27 September 2026 (UTC)

Resolving Wikidata entity labels in Page Information - Wikidata statement property ID's appear in Page Information and Source edit without a label, we're going to try and change that. Phab:T440430 - Danny Benjafield (WMDE) (talk) 15:40, 7 October 2026 (UTC) for the Wikidata Integrations Team
- Why is this item weird: I created this tool for identifying potentially inconsistent or missing information in Wikidata items by entering a QID, label or wikidata.org URL into the search bar. King ChristLike (talk) 16:38, 23 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wikidata Birthday Studio - Create your own Wikidata themed Cake labels, Artworks, Posters, Notices for Wikidata Birthday. Download as svg and png. --Ranjithsiji (talk) 19:38, 23 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wikidata Discographer: A web app for power users in WikiProject Music to populate album items with a tracklist and create/link the relevant tracks and compositions. Nicereddy (talk) 17:40, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wikidata Roundtable, created by Egezort as a GSoC project, is a tool that encourages Wikidata users to contribute to fixing types of problems in Wikidata, such as has part(s) (P527) cycles. A user first selects a problem type. Then they are given examples of the problem type to fix. Their suggestions are recorded and combined with the suggestions of other users. Users accumulate points based on their suggestions and can use points to get status improvements and other gamified rewards. If there is consensus on a fix, administrators can approve it and have Roundtable change Wikidata accordingly. A type of problems is defined by creating a SPARQL query whose answers are problem examples, so many different kinds of problem types can be fixed by Roundtable.
- Dustpan, a tool to uncover WikiProjects that can be improved on Wikidata. Try here: dustpan.toolforge.org 🎁
- Wikiabstrak: A web app that turns structured Wikidata into readable summaries without any language model. Search for a country, place, person or building and it assembles a paragraph from Wikidata claims using fixed rules, so every sentence can be traced back to its source. It also shows key facts, Commons photos, links to every Wikimedia project and a ready-made lead-paragraph recipe for Abstract Wikipedia, plus a "Nearby" map of Wikidata entities around any spot. Mentioned in the Wikifunctions weekly status update (25 October 2026). Affandy Murad (talk) 09:06, 27 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wikilokal: A free app for Android, Windows, macOS and the web that shows Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata and OpenStreetMap content around you or any point on the map: articles, photos and data about nearby places within a 3 km radius. Landing page. Affandy Murad (talk) 09:06, 27 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wikirekap: A browser-based tool that recaps a user's contribution impact on any Wikimedia project, Wikidata (items and properties) included: pages edited, number of edits, bytes added, pageviews and file usage on Commons, exportable to PDF or JSON. Affandy Murad (talk) 09:06, 27 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wikibase REST API for Lexemes, we've added initial support for lexemes in the REST API! You can now read a full lexeme, create a full lexeme and create forms and senses. There's two more endpoints to come until the end of the year. Ifrahkhanyaree WMDE (talk) 14:44, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wikidata:Games got a refresh to showcase some of the best Wikidata-powered games. LydiaPintscher (talk) 17:35, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Scout: A micro-task generator for Wikidata that helps editors find items with missing information and discover actionable editing tasks by country, topic and property. JosefAnthony (talk) 05:29, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- Akwụkwọ Ọkọwa Okwu Igbo: a free Igbo dictionary I built that works in your browser and offline. It currently gets all its words from Wikidata Igbo Lexemes, with the whole interface in Igbo. You can search without tone marks and browse using the full Igbo alphabet, and each word shows its part of speech and Igbo definition with a link to Wikidata. It also has a word of the day, lets you save words privately in your browser, and you can install it like an app. King ChristLike (talk) 06:23, 29 October 2026 (UTC)

Birthday message from the Wikidata development team
[edit]Happy 14th birthday, Wikidata! Today is a great time to celebrate, look back at the past year and see what’s ahead.
A lot of exciting things happened over the past year. I can’t cover everything, but here are a few of my highlights:
- Wikidata finally has a proper mobile editing interface. Whether your primary device to contribute is a mobile phone or you like to edit on your commute or while waiting in line. Editing Wikidata just got easier for you. Give it a try!
- We made it easier to get to Wikidata’s data and build amazing tools and applications on top of it. The REST API got stable search and first support for Lexemes, we released a new GraphQL endpoint, and Wikimedia Enterprise now also offers access to Wikidata’s data. In addition, the Wikidata Platform team at the Wikimedia Foundation worked hard towards retiring Blazegraph and replacing it with QLever. (Catch up on the latest with the recordings from the Query Service Days.) We have seen a surge in Wikidata-powered applications, too many to name them all, but here are a few worth checking out: Mergers & Acquisitions, Dustpan, Roundtable, The Film Map, a revamped WikiTrivia, Polititoe, Plopscotch, 9to4.
- We made it easier for newcomers to find their people in the community with the Newcomer Homepage, mentoring and linking the first WikiProjects from Items to make them more discoverable.
- To address some of the challenges Wikidata faces now with generative AI (especially people creating non-notable Items to show up in generative AI answers), we had important community discussions about notability, put in place a new mass editing policy and discussed how to better support our users with extended rights.
- Wikidata’s data keeps getting used more and more on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects thanks to the tireless efforts of editors as well as improvements to core Lua modules and templates such as Databox. Denny did a fascinating deep-dive into how quickly the new mayor of Paris made his way into different Wikipedia language versions compared to five years ago. The result is impressive and is driven to a large extent by more use of Wikidata’s data across Wikipedias.
- Wikidata’s scalability and sustainability continued to be an important topic. We made improvements to databases, prepared the move from Blazegraph to QLever for the Wikidata Query Service, discussed policy interventions (notability policy, mass editing policy) and pushed for more decentralisation throughout the Wikibase Ecosystem.
- The Wikibase Ecosystem keeps growing and flourishing. We focused on making it easier to move from one Wikibase instance to another seamlessly by for example making it possible to log into a Wikibase Suite instance with your Wikimedia account (if the owner of the Wikibase wants that) and releasing a first version of ontology federation, which lets you use Wikidata’s Items as values in statements on another Wikibase instance. Installing Wikibase Suite also became easier thanks to a new installer.
The year ahead will also be a pretty exciting one. Here are a few things I am looking forward to:
- We will continue the work to make Wikidata more sustainable and scalable. The biggest change to look forward to is the full rollout of QLever as the backend of the Wikidata Query Service.
- The Wikibase Ecosystem will grow and grow closer together, most importantly through the full version of ontology federation, which will make it easy to use Wikidata’s Items and Properties on other Wikibase instances, and by making it easier to bootstrap a new Wikibase instance with a basic set of Items and Properties if you want that.
- With generative AI enabling more people to build applications, we will likely see more applications powered by Wikidata’s data as well as more tools for editing Wikidata.
- With the increasing pressure on our users with extended rights, patrollers and others, we will focus on supporting their work so that Wikidata stays the great community it is and keeps providing the world with reliable, verifiable data. We will especially focus on combating promotional Item creation and on ensuring data quality.
- We will continue to improve how Wikidata’s data is used in Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects to make sure that everyone has access to up-to-date information in their language.
- And last but not least, we will come together in Istanbul (and online) for an amazing WikidataCon 2027.
<3
Thank you for everything you do on Wikidata.
Here’s to many more years of linked data for everyone, by everyone!
Lydia, for the development team
