Wikidata turns 14 on 29 October 2026 🥳
Fourteen years. Tens of thousands of editors. Billions of edits. Millions of Items. The Wikidata community has come a long way since 2012.
Throughout October and November 2026, we invite you to be part of a worldwide celebration. Organize or join a local meetup, host a workshop online, or simply gather with fellow Wikidatians.
The goals of these celebrations are to:
- 🎉 Celebrate the achievements of the Wikidata community
- 🤝 Bring people together across languages and regions
- 🌍 Raise awareness of Wikidata and invite new people to join
All over the world, communities will host birthday meetups, workshops, edit-a-thons, livestreams, hackathons, and more. Check out the events calendar below to find something happening near you, or organize your own.
We especially encourage local Wikidata groups, affiliates, and individuals to hold special events, or dedicate one of their usual meetups to the birthday. Funding support is available from Wikimedia Deutschland, and a communications kit will help you promote and decorate your birthday events.
As always, people are also preparing Presents & messages. These include new tools, data visualizations, logos, poems, and other creative contributions. Others are writing blog posts, creating videos, and sharing their Wikidata love on social media.
