Glossary[edit]
All articles featured in the ITN template must pass our standards of review. They should be up-to-date, demonstrate relevance via good sourcing and have at least an acceptable quality. Nomination steps[edit]
The better your article's quality, the better it covers the event and the wider its perceived significance (see WP:ITNSIGNIF for details), the better your chances of getting the blurb posted.
Headers[edit]
Voicing an opinion on an item[edit]Format your comment to contain "support" or "oppose", and include a rationale for your choice. In particular, address the notability of the event, the quality of the article, and whether it has been updated. Please do...[edit]

[edit]Blurb: Democrats secure a majority in both the House of Representatives and Senate in the U.S. general election. (Post)
- Nominated by Masem (talk · give credit)
The nominated event is listed on WP:ITN/R, so each occurrence is presumed to be important enough to post. Comments should focus on whether the quality of the article and update meet WP:ITNCRIT, not the significance.
Nominator's comments: The majorities have been secured. What's left as I write this is the actual size of those majorities (the blue wave clearly hit), but that's beyond the scope of an election blurb. Article not yet updated fully, probably won't be mostly in place until early tomorrow. Masem (t) 04:38, 4 November 2026 (UTC)
RD/Blurb: Jesús de Miguel
[edit]Recent deaths nomination
Blurb: CD Tenerife footballer Jesús de Miguel dies after a heavy collision in a league match. (Post)
- Nominated by Abcmaxx (talk · give credit)
- Updated by ItsShandog (talk · give credit), Mellamelina (talk · give credit), BrazilianDude70 (talk · give credit) and Unknown Temptation (talk · give credit)
Recent deaths of any person, animal or organism with a Wikipedia article are always presumed to be important enough to post (see this RFC and further discussion). Comments should focus on whether the quality of the article meets WP:ITNQUALITY.
Nominator's comments: Spanish footballer, tragic death after collision during a league match. Abcmaxx (talk) 10:20, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Comment 9/14 sources are primary. This is good for 100% confirmation of a transfer, but even in Spanish 2nd and 3rd level the third party sources exist, and are recommended. He scored 11 goals to get Tenerife promotion but this isn't mentioned, he signs and it ends. I'll address this when at the computer. Unknown Temptation (talk) 11:19, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support I've had a gander and replaced most of the primary sources from his professional career; the deceased was not in the third tier until 2021, so some primary sources remain before then. The question is whether to keep those contemporary references or replace them with the career retrospectives from the Salamanca Hoy (2023) and Norte de Castilla (2022) source, or sadly, obituaries. Unknown Temptation (talk) 14:06, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- I added a potential blurb, since this is such a horrible freak accident. I would say this warrants a blurb. 9ninety (talk) 12:42, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose blurb tragic yes and should go to RD, but I don’t think this kind of freak acccident warrants a blurb as there is a 0% chance an article will be made on his death or the match specifically. ~2026-58478-75 (talk) 13:43, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose RD on quality for now; The article is still being heavily worked on. Oppose Blurb as well, because I do not believe a freak accident should warrant a blurb in of itself given the person's importance. Helloyesiamhuman (talk) 13:55, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose Blurb Not a clear top tier/major figure in sports, and while the death is unusual, it's not the type covered by "death as the story" as it has no wide reaching impact. Oppose RD due to the sourcing issyes identified (excessive weight kn primary) Masem (t) 14:02, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- A death due to a football match is quite the story. Much more of a story than some of the deaths of natural causes we post merely because it was a major figure. 9ninety (talk) 16:14, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- its an unusual death which is why it is getting lots of coverage, but its nothing like an assissination which is what "death as the story" usually applies to. There are a few comparable cases like with Kobe Bryant, but there both death was unusual and at the rime he was a major figure in basketball. Masem (t) 16:19, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- I would say this is more unusual than an assassination or a helicopter crash. However, it would be nice if we could have an article on his death to post, instead of his biography. Not sure why the TA seems to think there's a 0% chance of that. 9ninety (talk) 16:57, 3 November 2026 (UTC)

- Not ready/Oppose blurb per Masem. CantBelieveINeedAnAccount (talk) 15:37, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose Tragic but I'm leaning towards an oppose for a blurb. Not seeing how the death/player are significant for ITN beyond this event. Gotitbro (talk) 17:44, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Comment the page is now 3,500 characters and 5/22 club sources, compared to 2,100 characters and 9/14 club sources when I voiced the first concern. The wind is not blowing in the way of a blurb. Can we have a conversation from now on about whether this meets recent death criteria - something that all pages can reach on quality - and if not, what must be improved. Thanks Unknown Temptation (talk) 20:22, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support blurb, oppose quality - Death as the main story applicable here, story is receiving major international coverage, though article needs work. ClarkBurbank 20:39, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support RD when ready, oppose blurb - He was neither a very influential person in his field of expertise, nor was his death so remarkable an event in its own right as to merit a blurb. (Nor, I should say for completeness, is the combination of the two significant enough.) Yes, his manner of death appears dramatic, but I'm sorry to say that death by sporting injury is fairly commonplace, and more so for professionals in ball sports. GenevieveDEon (talk) 22:06, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose We have a page called List of association footballers who died after on-field incidents which cover this exact type of death. Given that, respectfully speaking, he is not the top-tier footballer, and that his cause of death (concussion during a match) is a relatively common causes, I don't the "death as a story" rationale is invalid there. NotKringe (talk) 22:53, 3 November 2026 (UTC)

Karl Bushby arrives in his hometown after 28 years
[edit]Blurb:
Alternative blurb: English adventurer Karl Bushby (pictured) concludes his 28-year journey from Punta Arenas, Chile to his hometown of Kingston upon Hull on foot. Credits:
- Updated and nominated by LunaEclipse (talk · give credit)
Article updated
Nominator's comments: British explorer who first gained attention for his run-ins with the Russian state starting in 2006. His return to the UK recieved massive international coverage. Now considered the first to perform a circumnavigation completely on foot. 🌙Eclipse (🍳 • 🎀) 14:25, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Comment It seems to have been quite an adventure but it wasn't continuous and he didn't cross the Atlantic on foot (and he swam across the Channel) so we need to be careful about how this is described. See Circumnavigation and List of pedestrian circumnavigators. Andrew🐉(talk) 15:00, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Andrew Davidson: I've now added an altblurb to address that issue. 🌙Eclipse (🍳 • 🎀) 15:02, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose. Interesting story and an impressive feat of endurance (of bureaucracy as well as physical). However this is essentially trivia with no implications. Also the blurb is misleading: it's not a circumnavigation if he started in Chile and ended in the UK. Modest Genius talk 15:03, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose, trivia. This trek holds no actual significance, it's just the way one man decided to spend the last few decades. Perhaps if it was actually possible to circumnavigate the Earth on foot, and he did it in one fell swoop instead of his frequent stopovers in Mexico, and there was some sort of governing body, maybe? But as it is, no, it doesn't belong with the rest in the news. orangesclub 🍊 15:09, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- WITHDRAWN I'll consider GAN, but this is not likely to hit ITN from what I'm seeing. 🌙Eclipse (🍳 • 🎀) 15:13, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Reopening WP:BOLDly since I don't think there was enough for WP:SNOW. Strong support - A decent article, one that's received sustained coverage for over two decades now, and is currently receiving much international coverage. I actually rediscovered him a few weeks ago when looking into the feasbaility of strictly walking across the world, and I meant to nominate this when it occurred. I'll continue to maintain that a story on ITN does not have to be geopolitically earthshattering to be featured on ITN. This meets all the points of WP:ITNPURPOSE and disregarding posting since its
trivia
strikes me as similar to people opposing the Titan submersible incident that we ultimately posted under the guise of it being (trivial). — Knightoftheswords(talk) 18:10, 2 November 2026 (UTC) - Support I agree with KOTS above. This was many years in the making and seems to be generating widespread international coverage. I further agree that the emphasis on “implications” is misplaced. If “needing to have long term implications” is the rule for even for athletic accomplishments, then the annual winner of most ITNR sports tournaments shouldn’t be posted either. FlipandFlopped ㋡ 18:16, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support, one of the most anticipated events in recent months in internet culture, article is well sourced, journey has been covered enough.
- Per KOTS, a story should not have to shatter the fabric of what our brains can comprehend to be included on ITN. In solidarity, shane (talk to me if you want!) 18:43, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Strong support Interesting info for most readers, article is of very high quality and his arrival is being reported on by major international outlets. Precisely the thing ITN should be used for. ClarkBurbank 19:00, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Comment- "on foot" or equivalent language needs to be added to alt blurb. No immediate comment on supporting though my impression is to mean for ut if this is the first such completion Masem (t) 19:34, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support This has been receiving on-and-off coverage for a long time, but coverage and interest really exploded last month. Meets the criteria for WP:ITNSIGNIF; it's not blood and guts, or an unprecidended discovery, but it is a non-trivial event that has received a tremendous amount of coverage (both recent and sustained). Curbon7 (talk) 19:41, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Strong support. Encyclopedic value. It's not very often that a pedestrian circumnavigator (even if it isn't a true "round the globe" journey) completes their journey. Distance and duration make his journey particularly notable. ~2026-53373-98 (talk) 21:09, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support - per KOTS. InfernoHues (talk) 21:24, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose trivial. _-_Alsor (talk) 21:28, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose neat story but I disagree that this is significant (wp:ITNSIGNIF). Don't think this is eligible for DYK but would make a good hook there instead. Natg 19 (talk) 21:50, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- You've participated long enough to know that "Toss to DYK" is not a proper argument and should be discounted. Curbon7 (talk) 00:50, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Why not? This is clearly just a fun DYK story and has minimal significance to anyone besides Busby and those close to him. Just getting media coverage does not mean we should post, otherwise tons of tabloid news would get posted. And in my opinion, that is exactly what this is, a tabloid story. Natg 19 (talk) 03:57, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose - the nominator withdrew this for a reason OrdinariusFingius (talk) 00:02, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- The article is also badly written OrdinariusFingius (talk) 01:29, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Er, no it isn't, and that's just rude. Black Kite (talk) 06:49, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- The article is also badly written OrdinariusFingius (talk) 01:29, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose trivial. Was not a true, continuous "around the world" trip. The Kip (contribs) 01:06, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support This is an unusual and notable event which is in the news. --MtPenguinMonster (talk) 01:15, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support This had received a lot of in-depth coverage from many international news sources. It is not an earth-shaking story, but appears significant enough to me. HenryMP02 (talk) 01:25, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support Good article, very interesting event, absolutely in the news right now. --SpectralIon 02:07, 3 November 2026 (UTC)

- Support per KOTS. Strongly disagree with the term “trivial.” Jusdafax (talk) 03:36, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Weak Support - Obviously not a super notable global event that'll have any significant worldwide impact, but it's good to blurb fun little things like we do for award shows or discoveries of new species. Considering the article looks good and is well sourced I say why not. TheFellaVB (talk) 04:04, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose this is the kind of quirky nonsense that has become a joke. This isn't real news. The demographic of people who edit wiki is not representative of wider populations, so stories they find charming or interesting, is not what normal people would consider major events. Harizotoh9 (talk) 06:06, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Considering the amount of multi-national news coverage this has generated, I would say you were wrong there. Media agencies tend not to cover things their readers aren't interested in. Whether it rises to the level of ITN, I'm not sure, but it's definitively news. Black Kite (talk) 06:46, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose All the comments about "widespread global coverage" is highly misleading, as this news wasn't even topping reader count on these sites. I saw the coverage as the news agency simply wanted to put something in page 2 "quirky news" section rather than page 1 top read news. NotKringe (talk) 08:18, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Strong oppose - This is a vanity project that didn't set a record. He didn't circumnavigate the world, just took a series of walking holidays over 28 years. Salmon Of Ignorance (talk) 09:07, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Where in ITNSIGNIF is it a required prerequisite for an anthletic achievement to be a world record or taken place over a narrow period of time (as opposed to 28 years)? FlipandFlopped ㋡ 14:26, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose on quality The event is impressive, unprecedented and likely to remain so, but the article lead is redundant. I'd support when it is fixed. Didgogns (talk) 09:54, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Weak support – Can't see a guideline reason to oppose this, as the coverage appears to have reasonable depth to it. Very weird (fun) human interest story captured very nicely in our encyclopedic form. I like how the article is put together. I think it's all a bit weak compared to some ITN items, but meets my requirements alright. ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 11:39, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose This is suitable more for DYK rather than ITN. Karteno (talk) 12:19, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Unfortunately it fails all DYK allowances. This is a gap that I know we (between ITN and DYK) need to try to fix, and I think reducing the significance element for ITN items might help. But thats a subject for the current ITN RFC. Masem (t) 12:32, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support There has been plenty of coverage for this and the article is pretty well written. It feels like a rather unique inclusion for ITN, but not out of place. Additionally, I agree with the rationales of Knightoftheswords and FlipandFlopped. CaptainGalaxy 13:36, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose Man finishes vacation. -- Veggies (talk) 18:47, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose - Man who abandoned his family to go hiking finally goes home. This is 'and finally...' material for the news, and we should treat it as such. GenevieveDEon (talk) 22:09, 3 November 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's comments: All nine people on aircraft confirmed to have died. Article has been updated with known information. MidnightMayhem (talk) 00:31, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Strong oppose While I don't wish to suggest a WP:MINIMUMDEATHS, impacts appear minimal outside this crash at this time. Departure– (talk) 01:06, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose While tragic, nine dead does not rise to the scale of significance and impact expected from items. I also don't see this passing WP:NEVENT, and I may nominate it at AfD sometime soon if no notability is shown. Chorchapu (talk | edits) 01:09, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Does everybody on Wikipedia just love to delete articles about widely covered events or something. Bloxzge 025 (talk) 02:26, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- @Bloxzge 025: Just being a
widely covered event
doesn't constitute any notability. This happened only a few hours ago, so it is of course impossible to know for certain, but we can get a rough idea for now. Looking at WP:NEVENT, the crash is unlikely to become notable. It is extremely unlikely to have a lasting impact, and it does not effect a geographical scope any larger than West Palm Beach, Florida. On depth of coverage, most news on plane crashes are in the form of "breaking news" reports, with little analysis after the fact except for routine occurences like cleanup and publication of the investigation. The sources are not diverse: most sources in the article are from the US, and those outside of the States are just breaking news reports. The last time we had this conversation, the event was much larger and ended up meeting the requirements with lasting impact and coverage, and in-depth analysis. I do not see that happening for this crash, but I will wait, as NEVENT recommends, for the dust to settle and to truly evaluate without such speculation. Chorchapu (talk | edits) 03:05, 2 November 2026 (UTC)- Per WP:NEXIST, notability is determined by all suitable sources, not just those currently used in the article. Diverse sources from many countries and in many languages are reporting on this event, for example: BBC Der Spiegel (German) Le Monde (French) Corriere della Sera (Italian) NOS (Dutch) Helsingin Sanomat (Finnish) Rzeczpospolita (Polish) AVDLCZ (talk) 04:19, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- WP is not a newspaper. We should not be rushing to create articles on breaking news unless we have a clear idea that it will have long-term significance. The short burst of coverage now is not sufficient to judge that. Masem (t) 04:29, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

- Strong support This incident is widely reported & article is expected to be expanded, notable vertical speeds of -32,460 feet per minute just makes this remarkable and tragic at the same time. FlamingMingo 🦩 02:18, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
Wait for now as the crash didn't appear to cause to major of an impact outside of the damage and casualties (which thankfully isn't a very large number) and wasn't a commercial airliner, however, it has received international coverage and has been widely reported. I have to say, the videos and ATC recordings are shocking to watch/listen to. I will vote wait for now as though I both agree with the support and oppose statements, I can't come to an answer because we still don't know the cause or who was on board. Now that it has been a day, it turns out a tech CEO was killed and videos of the crash have gotten tens of millions of likes/views, so I will change my vote to medium support. Bloxzge 025 (talk) 02:29, 2 November 2026 (UTC)- I am absolutely sure that, for an encyclopaedia such as Wikipedia, the number of ‘likes’ a video receives is completely irrelevant... _-_Alsor (talk) 22:46, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- If we start considering UToob views, then we are in trouble - as we'll be blurbing MrBeast daily. https://socialblade.com/youtube/handle/youtube/realtime tells me he has had 139,000,000 views already today. I think all the view mean is some like crash porn. Nfitz (talk) 22:55, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Comment The quality of the bolded article is adequate. At this time, it is hard for me to judge the notability of this jet plane crash. Though, I have observed international coverage from Sky News alongside AP, CNN, and CBS coverage. The initial reports that's going around is that the jet plane sailed into an updraft thunderstorm core with moderate ice, weighing the plane down and causing it to stall. CastleFort1 (talk) 02:36, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support Highly unusual and tragic. I don't think notability is a topic of debate here as the Philadelphia plane crash from last year, which occurred under similar circumstances, was also blurbed. I'm not saying that this is a case of "X was blurbed, so Y should be too", only that this shouldn't be dismissed solely based on significance, or an apparent lack of it. This is being covered internationally and by almost every major news outlet in the country. qw3rty.exe ☎ 03:26, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- The Philadelphia crash hit multiple buildings and caused ground fatalities, which is generally uncommon for smaller plane crashes. Unless there were any ground fatalities with this crash (not seeing any reports of it, hopefully there weren't) I would say these two crashes are less comparable. This sort of crash seems somewhat routine to me, I can see a dozen articles at Template:Aviation accidents and incidents in 2026 which have similar fatality counts and were not blurbed. --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 03:58, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- I wouldn't exactly count a plane nosediving in the middle of a city as routine. The sheer amount of coverage (to the point where conspiracy theories are spawning!) on the event, I would say, gives it enough public interest for it to be significant. Yes, plane crashes happen all the time, but not really in these circumstances. qw3rty.exe ☎ 15:35, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- The nosedive is unusual. But not mentioned in the blurb. Maybe wait until it's understood why? Or even if, it seems to be a bit speculative. Nfitz (talk) 22:33, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

- Strong oppose Nowhere near impactful or notable to be blurbed. -- Veggies (talk) 05:41, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Weak oppose - We wouldn't generally expect to hear about a private vehicle crash with 9 fatalities, much less post it to the homepage. The only additional factor here in terms of the narrative is that the vehicle in question was an aeroplane. However, a photograph of this crash was above the fold on the BBC News home page here in the UK this morning, so I can hardly deny that this story is indeed in the news. On balance, I'm still against posting, because I think the dramatic photograph is gaining disproportionate attention. GenevieveDEon (talk) 08:22, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose Not seeing any impact of the crash beyond the victims of the flight, unlike other aviation incidents we usually post. Gotitbro (talk) 08:38, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Weak support, article is of sufficient quality and is being reported on by many major newspapers internationally, though I could see an argument for it not having major lasting consequences (As opposed to something similar like the train collision in Spain which will) ClarkBurbank 12:07, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose I suspect the very wide coverage of the accident is mainly down to us having video of it actually smashing into the ground; if this were not the case, I think it would just have fleeting coverage as is the case in other similar events. Black Kite (talk) 12:16, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- I don't believe speculating about an alternative universe where it wasn't recorded for this is worthwhile, the fact of the matter is we do have a video of the event and that is partly why it received so much coverage as you correctly noted. That however doesn't change the fact it does have substantial international coverage. ClarkBurbank 12:28, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- (A similar example I can think of is Kirk's assassination. Regardless of whether it was recorded, it would've definitely been a notable event, however the fact that so much footage of his death was released made the event have a greater significance and longer lasting consequences.) ClarkBurbank 12:30, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose A private, local accident with very limited impact on the national/global history of aviation and a low number of casualties. The fact that this is recorded is merely incidental and does not make it any more significant, because it is not. _-_Alsor (talk) 12:37, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

- Strong support, plenty amount of coverage, under investigation by the NTSB, FDOT, and the federal DOT. In solidarity, shane (talk to me if you want!) 15:19, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Note: The NTSB is required to investigate aviation accidents, and transportation departments would of course be interested in a transportation accident. So the accident being under investigation by those agencies doesn't demonstrate notability or worthiness for ITN. RandomInfinity17 (talk - contributions) 17:19, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

- In addition to this being objectively and verifiably false (there is no rule that 9 deaths is too little and we’ve posted jet crashes with less before), it isn’t appropriate to attempt to cast a “super vote”. This !vote should be struck. FlipandFlopped ㋡ 18:11, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

- support There is no WP:MINIMUMDEATHS rule. In this case, nine casualties plus an unusual circumstances where there is ATC recording of the pilots last moments, is drawing larger than usual volumes of coverage. The underlying possibility of the Learjet being vulnerable to catastrophic icing failures also has potential long term implications. FlipandFlopped ㋡ 18:09, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose. Aviation crashes with 5-15 deaths are tragic for those affected but not unusual in global terms - 2026 in aviation shows more than one per month, and that's just the ones that get added to Wikipedia. This crash got a flash of coverage in the US media because it happened in Florida, but I'm not seeing any aspect that makes it particularly significant. This is notable enough to have an article, but not for an ITN blurb. We don't post every traffic accident with similar numbers of casualties. Modest Genius talk 18:15, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Comment Noting that this remains one of the top news stories in the U.S. even a day later, and that's despite the fact that we have an election tomorrow. Most small plane crashes completely fall out of the news cycle in a day, and almost never remain a top story. Also noting that this did receive international coverage from the BBC. Mlb96 (talk) 18:48, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Weak oppose Private planes crashing is fairly routine; even with 9 deaths, I don't think this is a particularly big story in that regard. That said, the circumstances of the crash (i.e. the rapid descent) plus the public nature of the incident is moreso the news story here, so I land at a very weak oppose. Curbon7 (talk) 19:49, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support - Mlb96 brought up an interesting point. The fact that this is still a top news story in the United States the day before a major election is highly unusual for a general aviation accident. - ZLEA TǀC 20:21, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- A news story yes, but I would not call it a top news story. Chorchapu (talk | edits) 20:23, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

- Support largely per Mlb96 (talk · contribs). I've been letting this ruminate for a bit, but this has been receiving sustained and unique coverage for close to three days now across America and even worldwide. It's certainly being looked for by our readers and will intrigue those who aren't aware. Seems to meet WP:ITNPURPOSE IMO. — Knightoftheswords(talk) 23:06, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support Considering the historical cases, all civilian aviation incidents with fatalities should presumptively be qualified for notabilities requirement. Almost all incidents would have receive a sufficient amount of news report, with this one clearly did. There's no "relatively small impact" just because theres only single digits deaths from a "semi-general" aviation jet. RIP. FK8438 (talk) 01:10, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose per Modest Genius. Tragic and horrifying, but not at the stature we normally post. For the record, I opposed the Mexican Air Ambulance crash as well. The Kip (contribs) 01:08, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Comment This wasn't a private jet as it was owned by a corporation. And it wasn't a business flight as the party was going to the Bahamas for a holiday. I'd call it a charter flight. Andrew🐉(talk) 08:11, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support I'm seeing continuing coverage such as this and that and our readership is engaging heavily with related articles such as Learjet 60. Andrew🐉(talk) 11:29, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support I was initially hesitant on supporting this. However, due to the continued coverage in the days following the accident, the similarities with Med Jets Flight 056 (which was also added to ITN), and thinking about the significance of this being an accident in a dense residential area. I think the inclusion is warranted. CaptainGalaxy 13:40, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose Minimal significance which appears to get airtime solely because of the video. That doesn’t get it to a high enough threshold for ITN. - SchroCat (talk) 19:14, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
2026 World Wrestling Championships

Nominator's comments: One of the world's oldest sports (if not the oldest), Olympic discipline, and one of the most read articles currently on Wikipedia. Possibly the most followed edition ever due to more exposure than before, and the fact that Iran and USA were medal table contenders until the end. Sadly the article is in terrible shape with almost no prose. Abcmaxx (talk) 23:50, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose on quality The reason we never post wrestling is because the articles are always terrible. This one is no exception: there is literally zero (!) prose outside the lede, and a whole load of unsourced tables.Chorchapu (talk | edits) 00:08, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

youngest-ever
may be clearer, orwith four rounds left in the 2026 season
. MB2437 00:59, 2 November 2026 (UTC)- The current altblurb is sufficient. We could change it to "In motorsport, Kimi Antonelli (pictured) becomes at 20 the youngest winner of the Formula One World Championship."
- But there is no need to add 2026 season, because that is already obvious, and no need to add how many rounds are left, because that is information that is suited for the page itself.PliskorCor (talk) 09:31, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Was unsure on protocol on that end; looking at similar ITNs, it does not need specifying. I would keep the "20-year-old" modifier as it is cleaner and still replace "World Championship" with "World Drivers' Championship"—there are two World Championships in F1. MB2437 10:18, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Again Drivers would be unneeded because a person cannot win the constructors and a reasonable reader would both understand it was the drivers, plus its the championship people either only know about or only really care about. While those who know about the constructors would know that it means drivers without being told.PliskorCor (talk) 13:42, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

- Added alt2 We need weigh the notability of the age record. Unnamelessness (talk) 11:51, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Comment We also need to assess whether this needs to post ASAP or wait until the end of season, as there are still four races remaining and the Constructor's Champion yet to be deciced. We also got an example from the MotoGP article last year when we posted until the season ends, though I totally disagreed with that. Unnamelessness (talk) 11:55, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- I feel post now. No point waiting a month or so for the inevitable. If its stripped of him for some reason, than so be it. I can somewhat understand waiting, but it seems needlessly pedantic.PliskorCor (talk) 13:44, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support both alt1 and alt2, pref alt1. Normally I would believe this is a routine event but I think him being the youngest world champ makes this notable enough. ClarkBurbank 12:18, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Wait for the end of the season. There are four more races still to go, the manufacturers championship is still open, all the other places etc. No need to rush out a blurb now when the article is incomplete. Post in December, when the season has been concluded and the article updated to reflect that. Modest Genius talk 15:07, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

- Blurb? There is an argument to be made that Atkins, as one of the cofounders of techno music (and also the one who coined the name), that this is deserving of a blurb. All techno music, ie. a good fraction of today's electronic or dance music, is ultimately derived from Atkins' and the other Detroit Three's musical output. - Undecided - I have seen him discussed elsewhere as being very significant, but I lack expertise in this area. The 'death and legacy' section of the article gives some indication that he was a very significant figure in his field, but both that section and the overall article are currently too fragmentary for a non-specialist to make an informed judgement. I will check back later; I certainly don't find it implausible that we should post a blurb for him, but we couldn't do so on the basis of the article as it currently stands. - Oppose at the moment. As Andrew noted, there haven't been enough updates to the article for 2026; likely a better candidate would be a page for the 2026 event once/if one is created, a la 2025 New York City Marathon. Andrew's concerns about promotional language don't make sense to me though; the only references to TCS I see in the article presently indicate that they're the current naming sponsor and that they bought those rights in 2014. Dylnuge (Talk • Edits) 22:22, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support on significance, oppose on quality - There is now a separate article for this year's race, but it's still table-heavy and rather perfunctory. - Oppose on Quality, Neutral on Significance Regardless of whether the WNBA is significant enough to post, this article might have less prose than golf articles brought here in recent months. Before this can be considered, it needs to have prose about each game, not just about the game's effects on the series. There should be a prose discussion of each team's season, playoff performance, and roster. This article is nowhere near ready to post. Rockphed (talk) 15:35, 1 November 2026 (UTC)

Routine sport with no lasting significance
would incorrectly invalidate all sports noms. We have an article, Caitlin Clark effect, that explores the recent surge in popularity of women's basketball. But as stated, a lot more prose is needed here. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:43, 1 November 2026 (UTC) - Support on notability, oppose on quality per above. Andrew's logic is inane, the Caitlin Clark effect is real and the WNBA is far bigger than it once was. That said, the article is severely lacking in prose. - Oppose on both quality and significance. There is way too little prose and regardless of the reason, the WNBA is nowhere near popular enough in comparison to other ITNR events such as the NBA finals. It may become popular enough in the future but it is not yet. History6042 😊 (Contact me) 22:01, 1 November 2026 (UTC)

- Support on notability, oppose on quality as others above. I agree that Andrew's reasoning is very suspect more so than usual; even if Women's sports in the US doesn't reach the popularity of the big four American leagues, the WNBA is getting there especially in the last couple of years. However, this is in no state to post. -GhostStalker (Got a present for ya! / Mission Log) 17:33, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Comment. The Valkyries are the fastest North American expansion team to win a championship, having only been formed in 2025 (link is cited in article). I think that makes it significant enough to be posted to ITN. I do agree that the article quality is pretty short though, compare this with the men's equivalent, but this might be yet another case of our systemic bias (WP:WNBA is inactive) Hason-LEK-SIN ● 💬 ● 🧱 ● 🧪 02:56, 3 November 2026 (UTC)

Andrew🐉(talk) 15:56, 31 October 2026 (UTC)- "Protests erupt" is an exaggeration that is not supported by the sources. This is an ongoing crisis since 2015 (Andrew Davidson: you're effectively quoting my currently uncontested edits, which I think are accurate per the sources). Something close to unique in terms of Wikipedia articles is that this is an extremely rare case for Wikipedia of a newsy event in which the "Reactions" section has a major academic reactions part written almost immediately, nicely classified into aye vs nay vs it's-nuanced, instead of being mainly just politicians' blabla. In this case, the interpretations, especially by legal experts, matter, because how civil servants, police, media, politicians, judges, lawyers react depends on which legal experts and opinions they trust the most. The Polish case is one of the most prominent European cases of democratic backsliding of the 2010s/2020s (the Hungarian one is the other most prominent one), and the events of 30/31 October may either continue the long crisis, or become an inflection point that evolves towards broad consensus in the Polish legal system. - Comment Reaction section is way too long, and the typical problem with political event articles. Needs far more summary, staying to quotes only to those directly involved in the situation if they aren't talking about anything actionable. Masem (t) 23:15, 31 October 2026 (UTC)
- Given that the crisis is about legal interpretations at the meta and meta-meta levels and so on (a constitution is rules about rules; a constitutional tribunal makes decisions about those rules about rules; running a constitutional tribunal requires rules and decisions about making decisions about rules about rules; at each level, who makes the interpretation and ambiguity or unambiguity in rules and decisions is itself covered by explicit or implicit rules and decisions), interpretive comments by recognised legal scholars and political/social scientists are more significant than the usual "blabla" type reactions to news events. These are not just regular "I condemn violence and recommend calm" politicians' blabla statements. Boud (talk) 12:48, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- In the long term, analysis by academics and political scientists are valuable, but in the short term, its way too early to try to craft such a section to the length it is with that many quotes and statements. Its fair to say, for example "Some academics, including X, Y, and Z, said the move was unconstitutional." Masem (t) 13:43, 1 November 2026 (UTC)

- Support last night was a big escalation of crisis. But if we want to add this, I would choose alternative blurb, because first isn't true - in Poland we have only one protest - next to Tribunal building in Warsaw. Also this protest was started a long time ago (when Sejm appointed new judges), and isn't a huge one - up to 1000 people I guess. Szturnek¿odp? 00:19, 1 November 2026 (UTC)

- Support, although the article needs some more revisions then: the "protests" section is bare (despite media continuously and deeply covering the protests for the last 2 days), the ongoing discussion to rename the article (which is currently showing preference to rename the article to "2026 Polish Constitutional Tribunal crisis"), more reliable sourcing, and coverage of some of the more recent events: Tusk's "address" at 20:00, some parties calling for the so-called "constitutional reset", the fact that the opposition is using this to demand either removing Tusk or calling snap elections. polish ✹ kurd 01:03, 1 November 2026 (UTC)

- Support in principle. Yes, this is the culmination of something which has been brewing for a long time, and has escalated to a constitutional crisis (the RS call it that). I’m confused by some of the !oppose rationales which cite to that point - it being the culmination of something makes it more notable. I agree that article could use a bit more work first though. FlipandFlopped ㋡ 03:02, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- It doesn't seem that this is a culmination as the wrangling will continue -- see What could happen next?. The problem is that the main levers of power in the Polish government are divided between hostile parties and they don't agree on the rules and so you have what the coverage calls a standoff. One side says that this guy is suspended. The other says that the suspension is invalid and so it's a coup. And what makes it hard to resolve is that it's the institutions which make the legal decisions which are in dispute. When they can't agree, we shouldn't be making definitive statements about this. Andrew🐉(talk) 09:20, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support Major escalation of the crisis, international coverage, target article is good enough. ArionStar (talk) 19:10, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose This is a pseudo-crisis blown out of proportion by all sides. The constitutional tribunal is to be honest only notable after the previous ruling party, now opposition party, heavily politicised it and used it quash judicial protests against the abortion ban. Before that no-one really thought too much about it. Now that the arch-nemeses are in power, they want to depoliticise it, or more to the point politicise it in their favour at all costs and right great wrong by breaking all the rules too. Really what it actually boils down to which party loyalist and who's friends and family get to have low-effort cushy jobs for extraordinary salaries. Abcmaxx (talk) 23:34, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- Comment: the nominated blurb makes no sense, and the article isn't much clearer on what's actually happened and why it matters. The text assumes a lot of prior knowledge in the reader. I'm not sufficiently familiar with the politics so won't !vote, but this story needs to be made much more accessible to non-experts. Modest Genius talk 18:36, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- I've extended the lead to try to better summarise the current content of the article. The context is democratic backsliding, and specifically democratic backsliding in Poland (which does not have a good overview article in Wikipedia) that started in 2015, and the role of different political parties' and their coalitions' desire to control the Constitutional Tribunal as a key event of the democratic backsliding period that started in 2015, continuing through many phases for a decade, and re-escalating in 2026. However, not many sources give the broader context of democratic backsliding, so that's only stated indirectly in the body of the article (prelude) rather than in the lead. Boud (talk) 21:38, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- Comment. If this is going to be posted, I would want the blurb to clearly state that he is the president of the "Constitutional Tribunal", not the president of Poland. ~2026-53373-98 (talk) 21:11, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's comments: American economist and Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences laureate. Mr. Lechkar (talk) 20:39, 31 October 2026 (UTC)
- Support blurb for Nordhaus, who was highly influential for integrating climate change into macroeconomics as well as for his contributions to economics education and economic policy. I would argue he is more encyclopedically notable than Patrick Stewart. Bzweebl (talk • contribs) 21:46, 31 October 2026 (UTC)
- @Bzweebl: Trying to compare academics to actors is apples to oranges here. Just because Stewart was blurbed doesn't mean this guy warrants one, and I dispute your assertion that non-academic subjects like acting are less "encyclopedically notable" than academic subjects purely by the field they are in. QuicoleJR (talk|edits) 17:55, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support RD, Oppose blurb Well-written article perfect for RD. Tge death of Mr Nordhaus is however not a major news item, which I think is rather apparent. Yakikaki (talk) 23:05, 31 October 2026 (UTC)
- Support RD, oppose blurb Article is of sufficient quality for RD, but I don't believe he meets the criteria for being a transformative figure.
- (Comparisons to Patrick Stewart as mentioned by Bzweebl are not meaningful as we don't adhere to the "We posted X but not Y" doctrine, but as an example he was a household name with a large impact on human society, I don't believe Nordhaus meets that threshold.) ClarkBurbank 23:05, 31 October 2026 (UTC)
- Support blurb The subject's article is classified as WP:VITAL, just like Patrick Stewart and Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas. We know that their Nobel achievement is regarded as significant by ITN because it was blurbed when it was awarded. I'm not seeing any major obituaries in the mainstream media yet though so maybe we should wait on those. Andrew🐉(talk) 10:17, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- While Nordhaus's Nobel was undoubtedly worthy of an ITN blurb at the time, his passing does not carry the same monumental, transformative global impact required for a death blurb. Winning a Nobel shouldn't serve as an automatic lifetime pass for a blurb upon death if the broader public and historical impact of the passing and figure is comparatively routine. An RD is more appropriate here imo. ClarkBurbank 15:24, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- A death blurb does not require "monumental, transformative global impact". The deaths of Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas and Patrick Stewart were not so huge but they have been blurbed because they were major figures in their respective field and so their passing will be of interest to the general readership. - Support blurb. A Nobel winner(especially the science/literature related ones) is generally an indicator someone is important enough to their field to merit a blurb. Maybe not always a guarantee, but definitely a point towards a blurb. 331dot (talk) 10:28, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose blurb. The fact that someone deserved a blurb for winning a Nobel Prize doesn't mean they meet the (much higher, in my opinion) threshold for their death itself being worthy of another blurb. Chaotic Enby (in solidarity · talk · contribs) 11:54, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support RD because the article quality is sufficient. Oppose blurb because his death has received minimal news coverage and I'm not seeing much in the article to suggest he is important enough to warrant a blurb. Not all Level 5 vital people are blurbworthy, and six people get Nobel Prizes every year, so that's not an automatic death blurb either. In the absence of a compelling argument for blurbing him, I come down as an oppose. QuicoleJR (talk|edits) 17:53, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- Support RD, comment on blurb Quality seems okay for an RD but I do note there's a handful of primary sources which should be augmented with third-party ones. On a blurb, while a large amount of the article is devoted to his works and contributions, I'm not seeing it well spelled out how impactful it was or what legacy it had. Simply winning the Nobel is not necessarily an automatic "major figure", though that likely should lead to coverage explaining the impact of the work particularly with any obits. Masem (t) 18:31, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose blurb Low-importance in economics. Grimes2 20:50, 1 November 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose blurb - While he was clearly significant when he won the Nobel Prize, I'm not seeing any clear argument that he has had a genuinely lasting and widespread effect on his field. GenevieveDEon (talk) 08:37, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

- Yes, this is the biggest hack, but an article I read said there have been "nearly 150 [crypto] hacking incidents in 2025" so this is becoming an increasingly common occurrence. The previous record for a crypto hack ($1.5 billion) was just last year in 2025. Natg 19 (talk) 18:00, 30 October 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose The article seems too sketchy and tentative. It has few sources and there seems to be a lot of guesswork and speculation. As this is a crime, we shouldn't be accusing people as the article does. As for the amount, that seems small compared to other financial movements such as the fall in Google's share price which was about 100 times greater. And as the exchange has been locked and recovery is in progress, the amount is tentative too. Andrew🐉(talk) 19:47, 30 October 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's comments: Novaya Gazeta announced that it will shut down its servers and cease operations on 9 November. The announcement follows its September designation as a "foreign agent", the loss of its reader-donation system, the recent search of editor-in-chief Sergei Sokolov's home, and the eviction of the newspaper from its longtime Moscow headquarters. Nominator's comments: Spanish composer, musicologist and academic teacher, pioneering about the role of gender and power in music, National Prize for her third opera, victim of train accident. She had no article until 29 Oct. It's a start. Many refs and obits are in Spanish, but I picked one in English. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:37, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

- Now Salazar has the day (used already but not for the day), and also Bachtrack and Eric Alper (new overnight, and not read yet), but we know of course that they took it from us. What should we do?? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:01, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- I'll add Salazar as a source there, for formality. - We have no good ref for the day of death of Judith Blegen either yet, btw. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:06, 3 November 2026 (UTC)
- I now added to that the French National Library which looks more reliable to me. I removed the dead link which was supposed to go the the Spanish National Library (if I read it right, - my Spanish is very basic. When I try to reach that via the link in authority control, I get a "bad gateway" error message. ?? Could someone who trusts the BnF please add it as a source to Wikidata, because the source there (at least yesterday) also has only the year. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:32, 3 November 2026 (UTC)

Nominator's comments: Polish footballer. Article created by myself today. I realise it's a little short, but honestly not sure what I can expand with given the difficulty in finding sources for 80s Polish domestic footballers, and for a person who actively avoided media attention. Nonetheless his major successes have been noted and there are enough sources for the notable parts of his life. Abcmaxx (talk) 23:53, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wait - I checked sources and everything seems to be in order. Article is short but well sourced, I'm worried it may not meet quality requirements at this time, and I'm not sure its possible to improve this article given Abcmaxx's findings of there being a lack of sources as he avoided media attention. If the article is able to be expanded with reliable sources, I would lean Support RD but as of now I Wait ClarkBurbank 23:14, 31 October 2026 (UTC)
- @ClarkBurbank: what is there to add though that is not already there but pertinent for a RD posting though? The quality of what is there is good, the notable facts of his life are adequately described and referenced. Abcmaxx (talk) 00:01, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- I think for a footballer's career section a date of first signing and date of retirement/last game seem quite important. I've made minor improvements to the article, should be good to post once those are added. ClarkBurbank 11:56, 2 November 2026 (UTC)
- @ClarkBurbank: not when they started and finished at a fairly obscure semi-professional/amateur club though surely, not sure how can this be done when even now those clubs rarely keep records, never mind 50-60 years ago in an authoritarian regime. Abcmaxx (talk) 22:03, 2 November 2026 (UTC)

- (edit conflict) Oppose blurb Great actor who I saw on stage a few times, but not transformational. If the blurb does get voted in by trekkie and Xmen fans, then for the love of all that is holy, not the current and awful version of "thespian and actor": just "actor" will suffice, but I hope level heads prevail and we don't get yet another 'Carrie Fisher moment'. Oppose RD at present on quality grounds. - SchroCat (talk) 20:12, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- the Carrie Fisher issue was that she was famous for a recurring character in a popular movie series, but had little else impact full about her career. Stewart was a highly respected stage actor (he was knighted for his stage performances) before he became the huge TV/film star, and even after semi retirement, remained an advocate for gay rights among other aspects. He was also recieved nuneeous top awards indicating how he stood out from others in the field. We are going to have to deal with nerd-famous/pop culture !voting, but we need to look at the sum of the career and if the article properly shows which he meets the najor figure criteria, which as i noted needs inprovement but its not absent nor a long ways off. Masem (t) 20:38, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- I saw him on stage several times (and multiple times on film in X-Men and a Marvel), read his autobiography and liked him a lot, but he wasn’t transformational, nor does he reach the level for a blurb IMO. This really is looking more and more like a ‘Carrie Fisher moment’, and the sooner ITN takes steps to stop the fan-voting on film stars, the better it will be. - SchroCat (talk) 20:55, 29 October 2026 (UTC)

- Support Patrick Stewart is getting a blurb, folks. (agree with removing "thespian"). Xavexgoem (talk) 20:24, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- Comment It's pretty clear there's not a settled consensus on RD blurbability for household names, which will 1) naturally attract a lot of !votes and votes, and 2) conflate fan voting with reasoned argument. There also appears to be a kind of assumed consensus that cannot possibly gel with these "household names" circumstances, and part of the point of these discussions is to reconcile the two. This is difficult if a consensus for blurbability is already assumed because, again, these are different circumstances (cf Carrie Fisher incident, whatever that is (I can guess)). Xavexgoem (talk) 22:27, 29 October 2026 (UTC) fwiw I'm not a star trek fan, and I loathe the MCU. I love I Claudius?
- The "Carrie Fisher" incident just refers to the fact that many think she should not have been posted as an RD Blurb when she passed away in 2016, but there was broad consensus for posting her. Natg 19 (talk) 23:02, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- Support blurb when ready. Stewart was more than just the sum of his two most famous film roles, as the man maintained widely recognised legacy in film, TV, theatre as well as with philanthropy, which all of these have been lauded and awarded for. - Comment I'm a great fan of his work, but if the blurb requisites for the death of a person is that they be sui generis, I fail to see that substantiated by anyone who has written "support blurb" above. He was good, he was certainly popular...was he in a class all his own, though, in terms of acting? -- Veggies (talk) 20:54, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- ITNRDBLURB doesn't require the person to be sui generis (meaning unique and unlike other people). It says
These cases are rare, and are usually posted on a sui generis basis through a discussion at WP:ITNC that determines there is consensus that the death merits a blurb.
This means that the postings don't follow any particular pattern; they just require a consensus to post. The effect is that it's a straight vote and popularity contest. Andrew🐉(talk) 19:07, 30 October 2026 (UTC)

- Support blurb I'm always a little hesitant when we get actors who are famous for "Wikipedia editor friendly" activities such as Star Trek, lest we end up with another fiasco like Carrie Fisher, but Stewart is on a different level, not least for his legendary stage acting, and I suspect some of those !voting Oppose above are only aware of him for such parts (which sort of balances it out, but whatever). Article isn't quite up to scratch yet, though. Black Kite (talk) 21:18, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- Very sad news to hear. I oppose blurb per Muboshgu. Despite being a massive fan of TNG, I do not think he was transformative enough to warrant a blurb. We can't blurb every major actor that dies. ~2026-57643-21 (talk) 21:30, 29 October 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose blurb I think Stewart was probably at, or near, the top of his field as a stage actor, but I would argue he wasn't at the top of his field as a screen actor; he was usually an ensemble player in film and television. Even on the stage, there are a few obvious British names still living who have surely been more transformative and prominent over their careers. I think the amount of awards Stewart has received backs this up; he was never nominated for an Oscar or a BAFTA and never won an Emmy, Golden Globe or a Tony. Stewart is often associated with Ian McKellen but he's more on the level of Derek Jacobi when you look at his career and awards. I don't think many would support blurbing Jacobi when the day comes, but then it isn't actually the field Stewart was at the top of that is getting him all of these votes; what is doing the heavy-lifting for Stewart in this discussion is Star Trek. When we're talking about cultural prominence, Picard is arguably his only major leading role. For that reason, I think we need to be very wary indeed about the Carrie Fisher effect. I think, also, that comments about how we must blurb him because "everyone has heard of" him are a bit inappropriate; there are a lot of "household name" elderly actors from Western film and TV alive right now and if that argument held water, we'd be blurbing them willy nilly. Humbledaisy (talk) 00:19, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- I agree with your oppose, but Star Trek is not the only leading role that Stewart was prominent for. He also starred as Charles Xavier in the Fox X-Men series. Natg 19 (talk) 00:44, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- Just noting that I haven't watched Star Trek, so didn't vote for the blurb because of that. Sahaib (talk) 01:34, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- Support blurb He is the sort of household name that his death will and has led to widespread coverage. Altblurb supported without thespian. - Would also add that another blurb is up for consideration. A Mexican politician. I'm not going to argue for or against them being blurbed, and so far consensus seems to be that they will. I will say that if they are blurbed and Stewart is not. Then it will be just another chapter in the book of wiki editors finding any excuse not to include popular events of blurbs, in favour of events of blurbs that will have little public appeal. I'm sure someone will post a policy etc. But sometimes we have to think "What will people coming to wiki who aren't editors actually care about".PliskorCor (talk) 02:16, 30 October 2026 (UTC)

- Comment As nominator, I don't feel the article is just ready yet for a blurb. As I mentioned, we need to better expand why he was considered a great figure. There's a limited basis in "Acting credits and accolades" to support this but it really needs to be strengthened to support the "major figure" aspect of RD Blurbs. From the few obits I've seen, this should be really easy to expand with those. Otherwise, as many opposes point out, this is just being supported because he was nerd-famous, and that is NOT a reason to post a blurb. Masem (t) 02:43, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose blurb Highly famous, yes, although we should keep in mind that actors have an edge by default over other professions in terms of being recognizable to the public eye. However, that level of recognition alone is far from reaching the threshold of "transformative" in my opinion. Chaotic Enby (in solidarity · talk · contribs) 03:53, 30 October 2026 (UTC)

- Support any option: "Recent deaths of any person, animal or organism with a Wikipedia article are always presumed to be important enough to post. Comments should focus on whether the quality of the article meets WP:ITNQUALITY." The article had only one citation needed tag, for a sentence that the article currently can do without and can be restored if a suitable source can be found. (Which might be the credits for the program itself? Not sure here. Moving on, though.) If there is anything deficient, it would be Patrick Stewart on stage and screen, which is not being linked to. I will say that I am surprised by those opposed. Stewart did work in films over six separate decades, television work over seven decades, and stage work over six decades. His death is on the front page of the Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, Australian Broadcasting Company, BBC, and CNN. That despite the US election season that is less than a week away for the AP and CNN. --Super Goku V (talk) 04:00, 30 October 2026 (UTC)

- Support blurb Reasons include:
- The subject's article is rated vital and so there's already a consensus that they "represent the pinnacles of their field with a material impact on the course of humanity".
- The subject's article was the top read yesterday as millions of readers have already come to consult it. This dwarfs all other topics such as the World Series which is ITN's current top blurb. Even the article about Stewart's wife, Sunny Ozell, got more readers than the World Series and so it's no contest.
- The article is high quality with so much material that there are spinoffs such as List of awards and nominations received by Patrick Stewart which demonstrate his status as a major figure.
- Andrew🐉(talk) 08:24, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- On the second point, you're going to end up with people pulling the old "page views don't count" thing. Because that seems to be the go too argument, when they don't want to post something people might actually read.PliskorCor (talk) 08:42, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- People already are reading it, so page views are actually an argument against including, not in favor; we don't need to draw attention to an already highly viewed article. This is why page views are a poor metric. 331dot (talk) 09:03, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- They're not though. Who cares if its highly viewed already. That shows people actually want to know about the information. Wiki is a frustrating place because we have editors who feel their job is to push people to what they think people should be reading, not what they actually care about. "People actually care about this, thats an argument we shouldn't post it" is absurd.PliskorCor (talk) 09:23, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- That's the job of The New York Times editor, editors/producers at CNN, etc. Yes, that's what we do here. I'm not sure why that frustrates you, other than you just disagreeing with consensus.
- So you know what people care about? That isn't any different than doing what you say the other side is doing. You can only guess at this.
- There are other considerations besides page views. If you want ITN to be a most viewed ticker(there certainly would be less contentious discussion, I'll grant that) WT:ITN is thataway. I do think there should be less room to oppose on super-notability grounds as is done at RD, but I digress. 331dot (talk) 10:11, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- It frustrates me because wiki editors seem to forget that they are editing a webpage that people use. Posting things they will actually read seems like a good idea. Do I want it to be a most read? No. But I think we can also agree that a subjects popularity can be a good basis on if they should receive a blurb or not.PliskorCor (talk) 11:44, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- Popularity and page views are not the same thing. As noted below, page views are a Wikipedia metric that has nothing to do with the merits of posting a particular event. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm fairly sure we don't know that each page view is a different person. 331dot (talk) 11:55, 30 October 2026 (UTC)

- Page views should not weigh one way or the other. Yes, it's the job of ITN to direct users to topical articles. I agree that the large number of page views undermines the argument that we should post the story in order to direct people to something they wouldn't otherwise read, but that's not the whole issue here. ITN would look very strange indeed if we only posted articles which both were in the news and had few visits. I will reiterate my usual point, that the number of hits an article receives is not a fact about the news story itself at all. It is a fact about Wikipedia's own articles and metrics, and Wikipedia is not a source. GenevieveDEon (talk) 10:23, 30 October 2026 (UTC)

- Page views are a fact and so are objective evidence rather than opinion. They demonstrate the widespread coverage and interest and allow for objective comparison with other news stories such as the World Series or Elke Sommer. The numbers in this case clearly show that Stewart is the current top story. Andrew🐉(talk) 09:09, 30 October 2026 (UTC)

- The purpose of ITN is to help people find what they're looking for (WP:ITNPURPOSE) so yes, page views are very relevant as they're an objective indicator of what people are interested in. ITN isn't supposed to be for obscure news only. Levivich (talk) 14:11, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- Stewart's vital status confirms his encyclopedic value. The pageviews confirm that his article is getting a lot of traffic as a result of the news coverage and so it's "in the news" in a big way. The pageviews also confirm that people are specifically searching Wikipedia to find out more and ITN is supposed to help with that per WP:ITNPURPOSE. The quality is rated B-class and there don't seem to be any show-stopper tags. The last aspect to check is consensus and we have that too. The article ticks all the boxes and so it has been posted. - Agreed. I looked through both their nominations and it was all "oppose - old actor dies, yawn". Too many Wikipedians think the sun rises and sets because of their favorite movie/show and any major actors therein are gods. ITN really needs concrete, quantifiable criteria for death blurbs, otherwise you get absurdities like "my favorite sci-fi actor died! They need a blurb!" Ridiculous. -- Veggies (talk) 17:19, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- The current "guideline" is WP:ITNRDBLURB, specifically the "Major figures" section. But I am in agreement that there is no concrete, quantifiable instructions. Natg 19 (talk) 17:38, 30 October 2026 (UTC)

- I know all about ITNRDBLURB. It's a joke that no one follows (as we can see here). It's not even a criteria, really. It's two words: "major figure" without even the most rudimentary of definitions. If anyone thinks Carrie Fisher was more of a "major figure" than Olivia de Havilland in the field of acting/entertainment, I've got a bridge to sell them. Just look at the posts here "Support blurb - make it so", "Patrick Stewart is getting a blurb, folks", "Actually someone everyone has heard of.". And some of those are from admins. Jesus! No justification, no weighing arguments, just a straight vote. Absurd. -- Veggies (talk) 18:01, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- It isn't - or shouldn't be - a contest between 'popular culture' and 'high culture'. But all this complaining about Patrick Stewart's prominence in the former does a serious disservice to his importance in the latter. And yes, we should, at the very least, have posted Olivia de Havilland, and I said so at the time. That doesn't mean we shouldn't post Patrick Stewart. GenevieveDEon (talk) 18:21, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- One of the biggest issues, apart from the lack of clear criteria, is that closing admins (or admins who make the decision to post the blurb or not to) rarely, if ever, give their determinations as they would on deciding an AfD discussion or a contentious RfC closure. They are supposed to weigh arguments based on guidelines and determine consensus in that manner—even if it's imperfect. Instead, I don't see anything except a tallying of votes, honestly. Those opposed to a blurb here had fairly strong arguments that a great deal of the pro-blurb !voters didn't address. If Meryl Streep lives to be 116, the Wikipedians of the future will certainly say "oppose - never heard of her" "oppose - old woman dies" rather than looking objectively at weighing accomplishments and analyzing whether she was "in a class all her own" (as she certainly is). "Popular culture" is not a criteria for a blurb. Neither is "high culture". And for that matter neither is page views or article rating. -- Veggies (talk) 18:39, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- Since there are a lot of comments here about Olivia de Havilland, I looked into it and De Havilland was on the front page. The issue came after that.
- De Havilland's blurb was posted at 4:21 p.m. UTC, which was eight minutes after the nomination. After that, a number of users who disagreed made it clear that they opposed the blurb. This led to the blurb being pulled at 1:57 a.m. UTC the next day. Rather than just pulling the blurb only and letting it be discussed further, the closer of the discussion said
no need to discuss further
and closed off any further discussion without considering that those who supported the blurb might not have voiced their opinions upon seeing it on the main page. - Honestly from these two situations, I can see why there are calls to reform ITN. It definitely feels like the situation with De Havilland was more one where it wasn't allowed to stay on the main page because it got posted to the main page too early. --Super Goku V (talk) 23:33, 30 October 2026 (UTC)

- I was thinking about that. After reading the obits (Spanish and English/international sources), Cardenas was an instrumental figure in the country's democratic transformation. His role in the 1988 election (which was actually rigged against him) alone I'd argue would warrant him to be blurb worthy. TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 15:51, 29 October 2026 (UTC)

Death blurbs should be reserved for the most rare cases of news-dominating deaths. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:04, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- I would agree, this was where I noticed our standards had slipped and where we should've drawn a line. Failing that, we do have to draw a line somewhere. I agree that it's a bit of shame since Huerta seems to be significantly more influential (less egregious to suggest a blurb for) than Hamilton. Flyingfishee (talk) 07:51, 29 October 2026 (UTC)

- Support RD, reasonable support for blurb Quality is there, but a few things I'd like to see. First, having the stuff with Chavez does not feel right at an H2 level but probably should be an H3 under Personal Life. It’s not a major aspect of her life to be that predoninate on the page. Second between the Awards and the Representation sections likely can be combined to an overall Legacy or Impact section, and adding a paragraph or so sum up her legacy in a concise fashion. I dont doubt she has such a legacy (that is, she clearly fits being a major figure) but while all the implicit reasons are there in the article, we shpuld be providing that expansion of what's in the lede with sources there. Masem (t) 18:30, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose blurb There are many very important and influential people in every country, but we know that Americans tend to stand out more in terms of global popularity. I think we should feature in our blurbs those figures who also enjoy international recognition, impact and influence. That is not the case here. _-_Alsor ⭐️⭐️ (talk) 18:25, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Pardon me? Global popularity? You realise this is a language bias, right? Due to a significant majority of native English speakers being Americans. ~2026-57845-44 (talk) 10:20, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- Americans indeed make up 60% to 65% of all native English speakers. But if you include English as a second language, the proportion of Americans drops to 20%. So what the IP says is correct, but only when you look at English as a first language. Schwede66 23:01, 3 November 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose blurb, Huerta doesn't meet the high threshold required for posting in my opinion based on reading the article. Examples of non-American living activists that are also currently listed as level 5 vital articles include Wang Dan, Raoni Metuktire, Timoleón Jiménez, Chai Ling, Vandana Shiva, Benny Wenda, etc. I doubt any of them would be nominated if they died though. - Oppose blub - per above. Also note that almost all of the "important person" blurbs that aren't former heads of state are almost all Americans. The criteria is vague and open ended, thus leading to obvious geographic and linguistic bias in how it's implemented. You wouldn't see labor activists of similar regional importance being blurbed who lived in Nigeria, India, Philippines, or Indonesia, for example. Harizotoh9 (talk) 03:17, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- Your "almost all Americans" over-states the issue.. So far this year, by my count, there have been 18 RD blurbs. Abut a third were Americans, about a third were former heads of state and about a third were non-American and not former heads of state. The proportions in 2025 were similar: 30 blurbs split about one third Americans, one third heads of state and one third other. The most recent example of a non-American activist was Bajrakitiyabha though it may have helped that she was a princess too. Andrew🐉(talk) 07:55, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose blurb Understand that my knowledge of them isn't the only reason to oppose a blurb. But largely only seems to be getting attention in the US, with a handful of international sources. I'm not in the US, and I tend to feel that if the only way I would know that someone has died is from the ITN candidates, they're probably not someone who needs to be blurbed. Blurbs should be people where their death is going to cause widespread international attention. Not localised coverage.PliskorCor (talk) 06:41, 29 October 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose blurb Seems like we're willing to try and blurb any random person these days. This is not what I think ITNRD blurbs are for. I'll note that I'm not the only one saying this, if you look at the archives for October every RD with a blurb discussion has someone comparing them to Hamilton rather than the usual Thatcher/Mandela. It's getting out of hand. Flyingfishee (talk) 07:47, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- The number of RD blurbs so far this year is down on last year. The rates have been
- 2024 17 in 365 days = one every 21 days
- 2025 30 in 365 days = one every 12 days
- 2026 18 in 302 days = one every 17 days
- Another issue is that few women get RD blurbs. Only 5 so far this year (Bajrakitiyabha, Dolly Parton, Yayoi Kusama, Gloria Steinem, Margaret Hamilton (software engineer)).
- Andrew🐉(talk) 08:10, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- I think the number of RD blurbs per year is interesting, I'll note that we're above 2024 levels so we would probably need to look further back if we wanted to see how this year sits comparatively. Either way choosing RD blurbs based on previous years probably isn't the best way to handle things. If someone is worthy of a blurb then we should blurb them (rather than choosing not too in order to not exceed previous years), if not then don't blurb them (rather than choosing to blurb them in order to match blurb counts of previous years).
- In terms of women getting less blurbs I think it would be worth keeping in mind that we're not here to right great wrongs. (FYI I'm in agreement with blurbs for all the women you've just listed aside from Hamilton) Flyingfishee (talk) 08:28, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- The point is that your rhetoric like "getting out of hand" is hyperbole. The overall situation is that ITN posts very little of anything compared to other main page sections and so its blurbs are routinely repetitive and stale. ITN needs more blurbs, not less. Andrew🐉(talk) 10:16, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- I agree with the general point that we don't have a "too many death blurbs" problem, but about the women, I feel like that's mostly because women only started holding major political office a few decades ago, and major political office is a source for a lot of blurbs. The important political women aren't as close to dying as many of the important political men are because their careers were more recent. QuicoleJR (talk|edits) 14:11, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- The Thatcher/Mandela standard is not the usual and never has been. The guidelines leave it to everyone to set their own threshold, but this is one held by a exceedingly small minority of editors. GreatCaesarsGhost 11:05, 29 October 2026 (UTC)

Many of these RD blurb nominations have failed, but my personal opinion is that someone should be "Mandela/Thatcher" level to qualify for an RD blurb. Natg 19 (talk) 01:19, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- "Mandela/Thatcher" level is a highly questionable argument. ArionStar (talk) 02:07, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose blurb Simply not a significant enough figure for her death to be a significant event in itself. Yes, she had an important role in cofounding the NFWA, which later became part of the UFW. But is that and her activism really significant enough for her death to be blurbed? She was simply not as significant of a national figure as Cesar Chavez, and her courage in coming forward about his yearslong history of sexual abuse of her and others was notable at the time, but I just don't see reliable sources talking about her death itself in important terms rather than by reference to Chavez and the American labor movement generally. Even the claim that she invented the UFW phrase 'Sí se puede' is contested in the lede of the very article being nominated, with some sources rejecting that theory and suggesting Chavez invented the slogan instead. - Comment the page uses a reference from ¡Hola!, the blueprint of Hello! (magazine), twelve times. I don't know anything about Hola's quality, but if I saw Hello cited, I would replace it immediately. The political things it is cited to will definitely be covered by better sources, and even her status as married with two children is generic enough to be in mainstream obituaries. Unknown Temptation (talk) 13:30, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- ¡Hola! is a RS used many times in wikipedia and the information about her marriage and children is relevant, however general it may be. It is not always necessary to identify husbands or wifes if that person has not been particularly in the public eye. _-_Alsor (talk) 14:44, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- That's fine, it is you who is Spanish, so you would know the quality of the source. Sometimes countries' titles of the same name are completely different, like Sky News and Sky News Australia, and I bet people get confused about the reliability of those two. It's irrelevant now, but my comment was that her marriage and children could have been sourced to another source, not that we had to force in names that the media doesn't know. Unknown Temptation (talk) 20:17, 30 October 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose composition is choppy and confusing. In particular, the paragraph starting "On 24 January 2013" has two sentences describing the unemployment rate at two points only three months apart where it was virtually unchanged. We later say her "term ended on 1 June 2026 and was succeeded as minister by Magdalena Valerio on 7 June 2018" (?). I'd support adding her to the blurb as a multiyear cabinet minister. 2026 Japan Series
[edit]Blurb: In baseball, the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks defeats the Yokohama DeNA BayStars to win its 13th Japan Series championship. (Post)

Nominator's comments: Article currently orange-tagged. ~2026-57527-24 (talk) 15:18, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose For all the usual reasons: Loads uncited, tables galore, more prose needed. Chorchapu (talk | edits) 15:31, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose due to orange tags, albeit prose seems adequate now. The Kip (contribs) 20:35, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose due to CN tags MtPenguinMonster (talk) 00:00, 29 October 2026 (UTC)

- Support as the previous nominator. ArionStar (talk) 18:19, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Support, high quality article and is regularly being reported on and updated. Gauze ↵ 18:26, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose but would support the French protest one to ongoing If you look at the individual protests, only the French one seems to be ongoing and properly updated. Others have clearly ended, and a couple where im not sure if they are going on lack updates. Only the French one as that. That's the problem with that article treating them as related events, they are only related due to geography and timing but not cause or reactions. Masem (t) 18:35, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Support 2026 French unrest only; the European protests seem to be many different unrelated protests attempted to be strung together by that mess of an article. As Masem says, the French protests are the only ones really being updated regularly, and the article meets our quality standards, having only recently fallen off. And they are clearly continuing and in the news often: Al Jazeera, NYT, The Guardian. Chorchapu (talk | edits) 19:11, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Weak support I have no idea why we're still doing the "all the protests are completely unrelated and have nothing to do with each other"/WP:SYNTH allegations when this is still being covered as a general concept in popular and media discourse and in fact to a far greater extent now than when they were originally nominated. In fact, I'd wager only putting the French protests would be wrong since a lot of coverage of the French demonstrations are explicitly no longer covering it in a vacuum and covering it from a continental angle, largely over how its inspiring other movements in the continent or has similar causes to various other protests. Many of the movements were explicitly spillovers/inspired by the recent flare-up in France. The article needs to be restructured to give more general background, but it clearly has grounds for existing and IMO being put into ongoing. — Knightoftheswords(talk) 19:49, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- they are not related (only in a couple cases dud one influence another) but as the europe unrest article states, have a common thread of general concerns of cost of living, etc. If it were the case that one protest led to all of the other protests, then they would clearly be all connected in terms of successive events, but thats obviously not the case here. Masem (t) 20:24, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose this but support the French protests being added, per above. The Kip (contribs) 20:35, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose I don't see enough of a fil rouge here. Yakikaki (talk) 21:25, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose but Support the French protests per The Kip, Masem, and Chorchapu. Conflating all these protests together seems like a stretch to me. -GhostStalker (Got a present for ya! / Mission Log) 10:47, 29 October 2026 (UTC)

- Strong support A rare, terrible collision between two high-speed trains travelling in the same direction. Madrid–Seville is a popular train line and represents one of Spain's most used HSR corridors. - Support but wait The second deadly train accident in less than ten months. It’s unbearable. The article is fine, but I think we could wait a couple of hours for the content to be updated with any new information about the cause, the consequences (the news are reporting the probability of the death toll to rise a lot) and the reactions. _-_Alsor ⭐️⭐️ (talk) 11:22, 28 October 2026 (UTC)

Oppose on qualityThe article contradicts itself: we don't even know if this was a rear-end or a head-on collision. — Kpalion(talk) 11:45, 28 October 2026 (UTC)- It was a derailment and head-on collision. The trains were on separate tracks. See the talk page. Mjroots (talk) 11:54, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- OK, Source and I were wrong. Now confirmed as a rear-end collision. Mjroots (talk) 13:54, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- The train IDs released by the authorities were both of trains travelling in the same direction. If you look near the end of the X video it appears that one has derailed across onto the other running line after the collision. ~2026-57487-74 (talk) 12:32, 28 October 2026 (UTC)

- for the love of everything wait, less than 10% reporting so far
- Strong Oppose (current wording) and Wait Not only is this premature, this is simply not true. The 50-ish seat count refers to the bloc strengths of pro-Bibi and pro-Eisenkot parties, while the actual parties they lead are expected to hold a seat count closer to 20 seats. And we are a long while from knowing the final seat count. John Adams 362 (talk) 01:24, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- My apologies, the news that I read made it seem like the parties each had 51 seats. Chorchapu (talk | edits) 01:46, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wait until we can be more certain about the results, posting prematurely and having the results not match our projection could cause serious reputational issues. Also, I agree with John that the current blurb wording is problematic. QuicoleJR (talk|edits) 01:42, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wait, per above. On quality, the article seems okay, although it's understandably proseline. Neither proposed blurb works at the moment, I would suggest posting more alts before results are clearer would also be premature. CMD (talk) 01:53, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wait. You don't get points for being first. Premature nom. CREditzWiki (yap) | (things i apparently did) 02:05, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, please WP:AGF though. I just saw that the election results had (to my understanding at the time) come out, and saw it hadn't been nominated yet. I did so, and while it turns out I was in fact wrong, the rudeness of the opposes has been a bit upsetting. Chorchapu (talk | edits) 02:07, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wait As reporting elsewhere has stated "There is therefore no outright winner and no simple path to power for either Eisenkot or Netanyahu, and this result is likely to set off weeks of jockeying over who can form a coalition government before a prime minister is declared or another round of elections is called."PliskorCor (talk) 02:21, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wait until the picture becomes more clear. Strongly Oppose the current blurb, as neither the Netenyahu nor Eisenkot blocs will likely be able to return to power without the support of Arab parties, which is arguably the most significant known result at this time. Lamp moth (talk) 05:21, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wait per all others, but strong oppose existing blurbs, especially alt1 per the two votes above me + the opposition bloc and Arab parties could both be described as anti-Netanyahu, which means the pro-Netanyahu bloc did not win the most seats. The Kip (contribs) 05:47, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Support alt3, which I've made some technical edits to. Probably the best summarization we have at this point. The Kip (contribs) 20:40, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wait results are still reporting. IDB.S (talk) 06:16, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wait and oppose all current blurbs (two, at the time of this posting) as not reflecting the RS. This is a very complex election, and a full picture of the results and their implications has not yet emerged. GenevieveDEon (talk) 08:18, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wait The appropriate time to post this item is when a new Israeli government is formed, the composition of which is still very unclear. The results so far point to a deadlock which may take days or even weeks to resolve; no reliable source has indicated a majority of the Knesset has agreed on any majority or minority government arrangement yet. Noting this is ITN/R, I would also point out the article is decent quality for the most part but currently contains an orange tag dating back to August 2026 under the section 'Opinion polls'. Oppius Brutus (talk) 10:49, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Wait per above TuffMangoPhonk6741🥭🥭 (those who talk 💀)(Tuff edits for 🥶LE SIGMAS🥶) 14:59, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
WaitI'm not sure why we are even discussing this while the results remain so unclear. Nfitz (talk) 15:26, 28 October 2026 (UTC)- Support I'm not sure what exactly we are waiting for? 93% votes counted and no-one has won a majority, which isn't a surprise as this is what usually happens in multi-party democracies and so far no party has won an outright Knesset majority ever in its history. Coalition talk may take months (or on extreme cases years, e.g. what happened in Belgium) or a new election will be called (or in extreme cases elections plural e.g. in Bulgaria where there were elections called every few months the for several years due to deadlock). Abcmaxx (talk) 15:40, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Added altblurb3. Abcmaxx (talk) 15:42, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- The significant number of military/foreign votes, which may change the outcome, be what we are waiting for, I believe. Once we see if the trend in these results is the same, then we should post. Thursday sometime I'd think. Nfitz (talk) 17:39, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- @Nfitz: those remaining votes won't change the overall outcome though; it's coalition building or new elections, Likud won the most seats. The remaining votes won't change that. Abcmaxx (talk) 19:46, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Comment. It now seems clear that Likud won the most seats of any individual party, though his group of allies lost the majority. It does seem unlikely anyone will be able to form a government, and there may be another election, though that's an issue for another time. 331dot (talk) 21:22, 28 October 2026 (UTC)
- Support altblurb2 90% of the votes have been counted at this point. I doubt anything would change. That said, it's not 100% certain Nethayahu's bloc would stand by Likud and some could defect over to the anti-Nethayahu side.--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 00:48, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- Comment I think altblurb2 overstates the importance of Likud specifically. Likud being the largest party doesn't mean that Netenyahu will be able to form a government because of how coalition politics work in Israel, especially since there is very little likelihood of the Netenyahu bloc working with Arab parties. Lamp moth (talk) 03:44, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- +1 - IMO any blurb has to mention that no coalition (or at minimum, the incumbent government) won a majority. The Kip (contribs) 04:40, 29 October 2026 (UTC)

- Comment It appears likely that Netanyahu will be leading a caretaker government for a period of 3 months or so while coalition talks happen. (Reuters) This government will have full powers but is expected to use them with restraint. But this still means that they might attack Iran again, for example. The article ought to explain these arrangements but doesn't seem to yet -- perhaps it needs to wait on a decision by Herzog. When this is decided, the blurb should explain who will be in charge pending any coalition agreement. Andrew🐉(talk) 15:52, 29 October 2026 (UTC)
- Suggestion The blurb nomination is becoming stale; what about posting after a formation of new government? ArionStar (talk) 01:32, 30 October 2026 (UTC)
