On 2 March 2026, during the 2026 American/Israeli war on Iran, Hezbollah, a proxy force of the Axis of Resistance – an Iranian-backed group in Lebanon – launched a series of attacks on Israel in response to the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei by the joint US–Israel operations. Hezbollah claims that these attacks are to protect against Israel's near every-day attacks, which is still ongoing despite the ceasefire. It also claims that these are not related to the conflict in Iran, they also say that they will continue to fight against the Israeli invasion and force the Israelis to withdraw from the occupied Lebanese lands.[42] Israel responded by launching airstrikes in Beirut. The war has showed[43][44][45][46] the escalation of the greater Middle Eastern conflict.[47]
