🟡 Bot Bouncer status: Degraded

🟡 Bot Bouncer status: Degraded

Hi all,

There appears to be an issue on the Dev Platform at present that is affecting Bot Bouncer operations. In particular, this is affecting the time that new reports to Bot Bouncer are being processed significantly. At the time of writing this, there are over 930 accounts submitted to Bot Bouncer (whether manually or automatically) awaiting processing, with a total backlog of 7 hours.

Manual reports and auto reports as a result of detections on subs with Bot Bouncer always take precedence over proactive bot submissions but there are nearly 200 of those "high priority" reports queued so delays should be expected.

The good news: Most other operations including ban appeal processing are not affected by these delays. Successful ban appeals are taking effect on the usual timeline (between 1-5 minutes maximum).

I will keep monitoring this situation and will raise this with Admin if I don't see an improvement over the next 2-3 hours.

Thanks for your patience.

If this does happen, I made a rule-compatible replacement that adds new features on top. https://developers.reddit.com/apps/automod-neo

If they do, I’ve made an enhanced replacement. https://developers.reddit.com/apps/automod-neo

Bot Bouncer now proactively sweeps for accounts that were formerly hacked, marked as a bot, then manage to clean things up. They don't even need to write in now for help, their bans will generally lift within 24hrs of cleaning things up (if recent) or a week (if the ban was over a week before).

I'd say that the comment similarity combined with the same account creation date on all four of the suspicious accounts suggests that they are likely to be bots, yes. I'm seeing more and more German-language bots hit the site recently.

No problem!

Please don't tag other users. This one is shadowbanned now so no harm done but it can cause issues for "live" accounts.

Take a look at the flair on the post. If it's "banned" then it's probably a bot, although false positives can occasionally occur. If the flair is "organic" then then they'll have appealed and we granted the appeal or was the victim of the hack and then recovered their account (that's very common).
